Tom Day’s 34’ Willys coupe has stood the test of time still supporting its retro bubble gum pink original paint of its 80’s Pro Street makeover.
This car wasn’t a big magazine car but should have been! It was originally built here in Iowa and somewhat of a folklore of the local car guys. The car had been worked on and built by some of the best in our area.
The original owner that completed it use to cruise it up and down the avenue on weekends. At that time it had a rowdy Blown small block that has rumored to have been on alcohol for a period of time. In his divorce the car got sold and passed around a bit until it made it back to Iowa where it is today.
We went through the complete drivetrain and suspension in 2019 adding a Gear Vendors overdrive to the 400 turbo and rebuilding the Dana 60 along with the blown small block Chevy. Tom drives this car regularly and is a common sight at local cruises.
We were just kids with sparkles in our eyes back then when we first saw this machine rolling down the road. The screaming blower, parachutes and wheelie bars with the big fat tires was a real life hot wheels to us and an inspiration for us as we both built prostreet cars for ourselves as we got older.
The Pro Street Elite show and cruise presented by RDB Racing at Havliks FSC Shootout Tribute Race is going to be a great addition to the festivities going on August 15th -17th Cordova Dragway Be there!
